What is Destiny?

Destiny is nothing but PREDETERMINED HAPPENINGS IN LIFE. When it is predetermined, it cannot be changed. How do we confirm happenings are predetermined? We should know it before it happens and it should happen the way it was considered to happen. Most of you must have experienced that some times, suddenly, you feel that something good or bad is going to happen. And it happens; at least you get some good or bad news. If your son/daughter is staying away, suddenly you feel that he/she is coming home and within few hours he/she is at home. This is not happening lately to common people who are used to telephone and mobile. But I know few, who still do not want to use modern communication system, experiences it. The modern telecommunication has killed this instinct of ours. Because we get communication well in time or in advance, the natural sensitiveness about getting such information by intuition is lost. Science calls this as telepathy. One of friend, Subhash, is M-Tech from IIT Pawai. He believes only science. Whenever we meet, we often discuss Upanishada and physics for hours. He strongly supports telepathy as he had experienced it. It is very interesting. He is from Nasik side and his father was not that educated. Once he sensed that his father is in danger. He immediately left for home. On arrival he came to know that his father accidently failed in a dry well and got injured. That time his father remembered him very strongly, feeling his son should have been with him at this time. Next instant was when his father expired; he sensed that his father is no more. And news comes to him in few hours. He was in Pune at both times. But Subhash cannot explain this telepathy or intuition on basis of modern science.
This is a practical experience I believe most of us experiences this way or other. This is nothing but the notice of happening. Sometimes we get wrong signals also. This happens because our own mind is in confused state. An astrologer can predict happenings well in advance, and mind well, some time in very perfection. My own experience confirms it many times with various people. But this is not our subject today. In short we can say that happenings are predetermined and can be predicted, sensed.
Who sets these predetermined happenings or schedules? Or how they are fixed, by which force? Upanishada or Bhagvat Geeta says that human life does not end by death, but gets rebirth. Where and in which type of life style depends up on the karma or bad or good things one had performed during the past life. Good and bad are in terms of humanity. For this one has to refer the Karmakanda or Bhagvat Geeta. Most Hindu believes this karmakanda. So the earlier life style decides the present life style and you enjoy or suffer accordingly. To enjoy or to suffer any thing, you should be ready or matured or qualified for it. That depends on your age or period. For example, if you were to enjoy good or bad married life, you need to be naturally ready for marriage, so it relates to age, time. So happenings are predetermined with time factor and known as destiny.
At the time of birth of an individual, whatever planetary position is set, is fixed for that particular person. This basic fixed planetary position, called horoscope, defines the quality of life. The ruling planets affects on individual according to their inter relations. That is why and how an astrologer understands ones quality of life and predicts the future. This future is called as destiny.
An astrologer can predict destiny, but he cannot say how it will happen, the reasoning for it. Many times logically, practically we do not believe such thing could ever happen to us, but it happens and reasons became clear at that time only.
This destiny or aim of every person is fixed. But this natural aim cannot be changed and every step towards it is also fixed. When a destiny of an individual is such that he will get or achieve things easily, he gets that way. Such individual says that do things rightly and in time and you will get it, you will not fail. While an individual who has a destiny to suffer, he gets things with lots of struggle. He says one has to struggle in life to achieve. But if one has to suffer to such an extent that he never gets success in life, has to adjust with whatever condition he is with, he never believes on either of above. Thus an individual destiny defines the way of his/her life.
So Hindu spirituality says that you do your karma the way it has to be done, as described in karmakanda, without expecting the fruit or benefit out of it. The benefits will come to you automatically, as per your previous karma. In short do not look for future and act. Let destiny guide you and you only follow the path of destiny. If life is a struggle, struggle. If life is healthy and wealthy, be healthy and wealthy but do duties of a human being.
